The Covering

The Covering

Posted on October 7th, 2023 by Redeemed

Genesis 2:25 TLB

Now although the man and his wife were both naked, neither of them was embarrassed or ashamed.

Man was created in the image and likeness of God, and he became a living being when the Lord breathed on him the breath of life.

The man and his wife were naked but where not ashamed. As long as they were hidden in the glory, they had nothing to be ashamed of. The glory of the LORD was their covering. The LORD was their righteousness and they had no knowledge of good nor evil.

The glory therefore is the beauty and covering of the believer. No matter the clothing we put on, it cannot cover our naked if we are separated from God.

Adam and his wife tried desperately to cover their nakedness with leaves when they discovered what shame was like since their eyes were opened and they could tell wrong from right- the consequences of sin. They also realized they couldn’t appear in the Presence of the Lord anymore and were ashamed of their nakedness.

Scriptures says he who knows what is good but failed to do it to him it is sin.

(James 4:17 NIV If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them.: Also see Romans 14:23)

Knowledge therefore can be harmful if not put to proper use!

The LORD had to kill an animal and use its skin to cover their nakedness.

Sin robs us of not only our peace of mind but most importantly exposes our nakedness.

Jesus said in Revelation 3:18

“I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and that the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see”.

Before the fall, man was naked, yet not ashamed because they were clothed by the glory of the Lord, they were innocent, not knowing good from bad, but the moment they eat the fruit that made one wise and also made one distinguish good from evil, their eyes became opened, and they knew how to distinguish right from wrong, with this knowledge came also the responsibility for the choices we make armed with this knowledge.

God had to kill an animal to cover their naked - for sin uncovers its victims and demands life (the soul that sinneth shall die). The Lord slaughtered an animal for their sake - the first atonement carried out by the Lord himself to spare the life of the man and his wife, and covered their nakedness, for He cannot behold iniquity. The life of the flesh is in the blood. He had to kill an animal and not use leaves because animal has blood, with life flowing in its blood. I believe if the Lord hadn’t killed an animal and covered them with the innocent blood of the animal, Adam and his wife would have died before the LORD.

Exodus 4

22 Then you must tell him that I, the Lord, say, ‘Israel is my firstborn son.

23 I told you to let my son go, so that he might worship me, but you refused. Now I am going to kill your firstborn son.’ ”

24 (GNB) At a camping place on the way to Egypt, the Lord met Moses and tried to kill him.

(25-26) Then Zipporah, his wife, took a sharp stone, cut off the foreskin of her son, and touched Moses' feet with it. Because of the rite of circumcision she said to Moses, “You are a husband of blood to me.” And so the Lord spared Moses' life.

Moses was sent by the LORD on a mission to Egypt, yet the LORD sought to kill him because it was obvious his son wasn’t circumcised. God had commanded that every male Israelite must be circumcised, but somehow Moses hadn’t circumcised his son, and because God is no respecter of any man, He sought to kill Moses!

Genesis 17:9-14

And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”

We must therefore be very careful and not take His grace and mercy, purchased for us by the blood of Jesus Christ for granted. The blood of Jesus, that speaketh better things than the blood of Abel for us is what is keeping us.

Moses’s life was spared because his wife understood this and quickly circumcised their son and applied the blood on her husband’s feet, and the Lord spared him because of the blood. We are not told why they had not circumcised the boy even when they knew he had to be circumcised, for the Lord had commanded it so.

Moses therefore has to set his house in order if he must go and be the mouthpiece of the Lord, for God is no respecter of anyone. Apostle Paul said,

2 Corinthians 10:6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Sin, in whatever form or guise uncovers, and once the covering is gone, no amount of clothing will cover, unless that sin is dealt with by genuine repentance, and then we apply the blood of Jesus on us and the Lord will cloth us with white garment so we can truly be clothed.

God bless.

Peace.
