The Lamb of God

The Lamb of God

Posted on June 27th, 2026 by Redeemed

And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”

Luke 2:12.

The birth of Jesus was spoken of first by God in the garden after the fall of the first humans (Adam and Eve) and later the prophets.

Isaiah spoke prominently about Jesus being birthed by a young virgin (Isaiah 7:14) - a sign God promised Ahaz when he was faced with prominent attack by Rezin king of Aram accompanied by Pekah son of Remaliah the king of Israel (Isaiah 7:1 - 14).

John the Baptist also identified Jesus as the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world - a theme the circumstances surrounding his birth highlighted and confirmed.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

John 1:29

I have often wondered why God didn't provide a comfortable place for the birth of the Saviour and King child, Jesus. Why a manger of all places, afterall, He owns the universe and is able to do all things.

As I wondered at the working of God, it became clear to me suddenly, that there is a purpose for everything and that his birth in a manger wasn't just a coincidence or as a result of the situation Joseph and Mary found themselves in but also to identify with Jesus and the purpose for which Jesus was born.

He is also called the Lamb of God, and lambs are birthed in places such as where Jesus was born, with Shepherds rearing their sheep nearby.

It was rightly so therefore that Jesus had to be born in a manger, were animals were kept identifying Him as a lamb, the Lamb of God.

This was the one spoken of by God and all the prophets, a fulfilment of the Word of God for he paid the supreme price man could not pay and His blood brought redemption to mankind.

Apostle John wept bitterly when he realised during his vision of the happenings in Revelation that no one was qualified to open the scroll containing what was to befall the world and mankind.

Mankind needed to know what was coming in order to prepare themselves to escape the troubles that was sure to come on the earth, but no one in heaven and on earth was found worthy to take the scroll and open it.

As the Apostle wept, one of the twenty four elder comforted him reassuring him that the price has been paid.

Behold, a Lamb looking as if slaughtered stood between the throne and the four living beast and the twety four elders!

6 Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if it had been slaughtered, but it was now standing between the throne and the four living beings and among the twenty-four elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth.

7 He stepped forward and took the scroll from the right hand of the one sitting on the throne.

8 And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.

Revelation 5 - 8

Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God paid the supreme price and so God gave Him a name that is above all other names in heaven and on earth such that at the mention of the name of Jesus every kneel bow.

Scriptures tells us that the four living beings and the twenty four elder fell to their kneels before the Lamb when He took the scroll from the One who sits on the Throne.

He has proven by His sacrifice and the fact that he was found worthy and able to take the scroll and open the seal and make known the content of the seal that He was worthy of worship. (Rev 5:14).

God bestowed Him a name like no other, for He learnt obedience by going to the cross.

Though it was difficult, for he was truly human too, but as he prayed, strength was given him to overcome.

There are many things we struggle with too but by the help of God’s Spirit, we too will overcome.

God's ways indeed are too deep to understand. Jesus in his birth truly identified with lambs, for He is truly the Lamb of God, slained for the reconciliation of mankind back to God, with Shepherds who were taking care of their sheep being amongst the first to be told of the good news of the birth of Emmanuel. (Luke 2:8 - 12).

Everything about his birth circumstances points to the fact that, this was divinely purposed, it was the plan of God to have it that way.

The angel said to the shepherds,

"The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!

And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”

Luke 2: 11-12.

His manger birth, and him in the midst of lambs, and shepherds being mentioned watching their sheep by night is just so fitting of Jesus been referred to as the Lamb of God!

Indeed, God is very intentional about the working out of His Word.

Every Word will come to pass just as He has purposed and planned it, and it is proper to ponder on these things, as well as where one plan to spend eternity in.

God indeed is the Supreme one. Think about how great and awesome His ways are, and how everything testify to His greatness.

People plan for so many things but fail to plan for where they will spend eternity.

Make that decision today, tomorrow may not be yours.

God bless.

Peace!
