The Voice of Assurance
Posted on October 19th, 2022 by Redeemed1 Kings 19:11-13 KJV
[11] And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord ; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: [12] And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. [13] And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
The confusion and pains in the world right now is enormous and to be at peace we need the LORD's Presence in our lives.
Many voices are competing for our attention, and we must learn to discern which to listen to with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Elijah the prophet had an encounter with Jezebel who threatened to have him killed, and the prophet ran for his life. I sensed here that he was tired and was feeling discouraged and overwhelmed by the events and battles he has had to contend with.
Like Elijah many of us are weary and tired with the constant and unrelenting onslaughts of the enemy’s attack and all we want is just to go be with the LORD; life seems too hard and we want just some form of rest, but we can depend on the Lord’s help to see us through; we can rest in Him for its not by power or might but by His Spirit.
Elijah had to journey for forty days to mount Horeb the mount of God to meet with the LORD, and when he got there the bible recorded several fearful and violent events but God was not found in any of these events. This simply tells us that our God is not the author of confusion, the violence happening around us are not from Him and Elijah could recognize this because he knew the God He served despite the state he was in.
Scriptures tells us that after the display of the violent events a still small voice was heard and Elijah wrapped his face in his mantle. 'And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?'
The enemy of our souls have loaded our world with all kinds of inventions, and mankind is racing to acquire things such that we hardly have time to fellowship with the Lord and get to know Him well enough to discern His voice.
Lately, I have hard my own struggles, and with the help of the Holy Spirit I could say Lord let your will not mine be done.
Without realizing it the things we love could be a stumbling block that have potential to derail our walk with the Lord, and because God loves us He won’t allow us destroy ourselves but rather He makes us know that we must let go of such things just like Abraham was willing to let go of Isaac when the Lord asked him to do so.
How do we therefore know if its actually the Lord speaking to us and not something else; how do we tell if we are hearing and discerning correctly?
For me I have come to recognize a sense of peace, authority and Power when the Lord speaks; but when the Lord chastises there is a sense of holy fear and brokenness for having failed Him; but this pain ultimately leads to repentance not oppression or depression.
If a voice or voices communicate a feeling of fear, a sense of being pressured, or oppressed, then you need to be very careful for there is no fear in Christ.
The LORD has not given us the Spirit of fear but that of power, might and a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
[7] For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
His voice gives us assurance; assurance that we are safe in Him. His Presence is peace and His blessings makes us rich without adding any sorrow.
We have assurance that God mean well for us when He ask us to do something that seems difficult because we trust Him absolutely.
Why do I trust Him so? Because He proved His love for me not just by dying for me but He died for me even when I didn’t know Him, and have not surrendered to Him.
His love is unconditional and His voice and Presence gives me peace.
God bless. Peace.
You can accept Jesus right now if you will, by saying this prayer.
Father, in Jesus Christ name I pray.
You said in 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I am sorry and repent of all the sins I have committed. Wash me with the blood of your Son Jesus Christ, and make me whole. Write my name in the book of life and give me the power to live for you.
Amen.
