God’s gift at Christmas

God’s gift at Christmas

Posted on December 21st, 2022 by Racheal

Christmas is the time of the year where the world is united in the celebration of the birth of God’s Son Jesus Christ.

At Christmas we remember and appreciate the love of God for mankind

Though He is King and Lord of all, and the entire universe belongs to Him, He didn’t mind been born in a manger with animals.

He chose to enter quietly a busy world, but noticed by those who were watching. His birth was announced by Angels to Shepherds who watched their flocks by night. His Star was sighted by wise men from the east, and they journeyed to meet in time His birth.

The gospel of Luke explained in details the announcements of His birth.

Luke 1:31-32 NIV

You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. [32] He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.

The angel, Gabriel was sent to deliver this great news to Mary who was betrothed to Joseph, that she has been favored by God and will conceive and give birth to a son She is to call Jesus.

The name Jesus was given by God representative of His mission and work on earth. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High the angel said. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and his Kingdom will be an everlasting one. The Power of the Most High will bring this to past the angel announced.

Isaiah puts it this way;

Isaiah 9:6 AMP

For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus therefore is the Father’s gift to man, a demonstration of His love for man. For God so much love the world that He gave us His Son, that anyone who believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Whilst the world busy on, God was doing His work, He sent His Angels to announce His entrance to the world. Wise men from the east saw his star and came searching for the King child who was born.

Shepherds and wise men from the east converge to celebrate the birth of the Savior of the world. They brought gifts to him, and worship Him for they could recognize His Kingship and Lordship.

The heavenly host were the first to celebrate His birth as recorded in the gospel of Luke.

Luke 2:8-14 NIV

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. [9] An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. [10] But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. [11] Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. [12] This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." [13] Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, [14] "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."

The birth of Jesus is worth celebrating, for angels started it and as we approach Christmas let’s remember the reason why we celebrate and not take the gift of God to man for granted.

God bless.

Peace.

Exodus 3:13-15 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
