One plants, another waters
Posted on August 16th, 2025 by RedeemedI planted the seed and Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. [7] So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. [8] He who plants and he who waters are one in purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. [9] For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. [10] By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds. [11] For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
- 1 Corinthians 3:6-11 BSB
We are all labourers in God’s Vineyard, called to work according to His will and purpose. Everyone has a part to play, a purpose for which they were called. No one does it all alone.
In the body of Christ are many parts, all working for one purpose; bring glory to His name.
Paul the Apostle made this clear, he planted, Apollos watered but the increase came from God. If after Paul planted Apollos said he won’t do nothing because he wasn’t the one who planted, the seed would die.
Increase will come when everyone plays their part in God’s Vineyard.
Whatever foundation we have laid is on the existing foundation which is Christ Jesus, and as we build we must be careful least we loose our rewards.
No one lays a foundation outside of Christ. Christ is the foundation, the chief cornerstone.
I will build my Church He said…Matt 16: 18. The Church belongs to Christ, the cost He paid, of which He is the foundation. We are called to be part of what He is doing, and as co-laborers we don’t get to set the rules but rather we are led by His Spirit to work as called.
In the body are many parts, each with a divine and distinct purpose. The hands cannot be the eyes, neither the eyes the legs but each part is important and functions according to its purpose.
The body of Christ equally is blessed with different people and the Lord has equally blessed with different gifts. The body will advance when each partake according to their callings and gifting.
Apostle Paul was called to plant, and Apollo’s to water but as talented as these were it wasn’t in their power to bring about the increase. Each did their bits, and steps aside for the next to do theirs. And finally waits for the increase, and this comes only from God.
So that he who plants and he who waters may rejoice together in the Lord who gives the increase.
So it’s not about the sower or the one who waters, but it’s all about the one who brought about the increase, for no one can sow unless they were empowered to and no one can water unless he/she has been enabled to do so. We all therefore are part of a divine order and purpose to bring about God’s will on the surface of the earth.
So therefore, we are careful of how we sow and water, so we get to get our rewards when the time comes.
We rejoice therefore in the God who has called us into His vineyard to be partakers of what He is doing. We are glad His name is exalted in our midst and that He gets the glory for the things He has done.
We walk as we are called trusting His Spirit to lead us daily. Even though we groan and are in travail as we journey on through the valley of ‘Baca’, it will become a place of refreshing (Psalm 84: 6 - 7), where strengths are renewed until we appear before Him who sits on the throne and dwells in unapproachable light, and then we finally get to rest in Him.
God bless.
Peace!
