The LORD, Powerful, Awesome and Majestic

“Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words?

- Job 38:2 (NLT)

The world is full of words, and it will do us good not to answer every word we don't agree with.

The Scripture above is a testament to the Power, Wisdom and Awesomeness of God. He is abundantly able to defend His name.

He who humbles the proud and abase them, is more than able to defend His course, teaching wisdom to those who are careful enough to know that they are but men, mere mortals who have no power even over their own lives.

We are today, because the Almighty is merciful enough to keep us alive by His great power. His breath in us, His essence preserving us, for no one has power to keep themselves alive, no matter how powerful, wealthy or wise they may be.

Job complained bitterly about what He was going through. He prayed and searched for God to give him relief from his affliction for he could recognize that only God could give him the relief he sought.

Indeed, Job was a righteous man, a man of integrity and one who feared God, but one thing was sure, something he couldn't recognise in his affliction; no one can stand righteous before God.

We cannot measure up to God's standard of righteousness, which is why Jesus had to come, paid the debt we owe as a result of the fall by taking our place, becoming who we were so we can become who He is. He died in our place, resurrected and gave us the gift of righteousness.

This is not rock science, but rather, its a matter of simple faith, faith in the wisdom of God.

Now, Job in his pains questioned the justice of God and wondered if it pays to serve God at all.

His friends added to his misery, except for one lone voice, a young man by the name of Elihu who spoke wisdom on God's behalf.

He testify of the greatness of God, the justice, wisdom and sovereignty of God.

The majesty of His Being, the awesomeness of His ways.

He spoke of how God is able to reward both the good and the wicked according to their doings, and that despite the greatness, justice and Awesomeness of God, He does not destroy us!

Elihu was careful to speak only of the attributes of God and why no one is able to in their limited wisdom understand the working of God.

As he spoke, Job and his friends listened for they could hear wisdom in what he said.

Scripture tells us that suddenly from the whirlwind God spoke!

Its interesting what He said.

He reprimanded Job for questioning His Wisdom.

He questioned him about His creation. If Job (and by extention those who question God's authority and existence) knew how the world and all in it came to be, they should answer.

He talked about creation, and how creation came to be!

The foundations of the world, how it was created, how it was measured and stretched out.

He asked Job if he knew how the boundaries of the seas were kept and how their proud waves stayed within their boundaries as they burst forth from the womb (talking about the raging storm), for God keeps them within their boundaries!

Job must know and should answer if he knew how the Light rules over the day, how the brightness thereof stops the wicked in their tracks and prevents their violence.

God spoke of the seas being formed from springs of waters.

Mighty oceans formed by springs of water!

And what about the gates of death where are they located?

Does Job have any idea about the dimensions of the earth, where light and darkness are stored, the store houses of snow and hails, and that they are reserved for the days of battles, times of war?

Can he tell if the rain has a father, and the dew was birthed? What about the frost and the ice, who bore them?

Talking about the constellations, does he have an idea how their movements are ordered (Pleiades and Orion)?

If Job doesn't know where these are, how then can he bring order to creation?

They only answer to their creator and no one else.

The Lord went on to question Job about the grandeur of creation, and how it came to be and who it is that actually controls and is in charge of creation.

He who created all these is in charge of them all.

If we in the cycle in which we are placed question the authority and wisdom of God then the right place to begin to re-evaluate oneself if actually one measures up is in the book of Job chapters 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42.

If one can answer just one of these questions asked Job, just only one, and by extention anyone who think themselves anything, then they can be reckoned as the Lord puts in Job 40:14 - "Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you." NIV.

But if we cannot even answer a question amongst the multitude of questions asked Job then we will do well to give glory to God who created all these things and live at peace with those we find ourselves with.

Even though God is mighty, He has allowed us to live out our will.

He gave man a free will and has not forced any against their will, except that the laws governing the earth will ensure we are held accountable to our actions.

God in His wisdom has placed laws to govern all of creations - sowing and reaping. We reap as we sow.

Hear God speaks in Job 41:

And since no one dares to disturb it, who then can stand up to me? [11] Who has given me anything that I need to pay back? Everything under heaven is mine.

- Job 41:10-11 NLT

We will do well to know our place in creation and understand we are all part of a greater plan and purpose, something bigger than ourselves and only God fully understands and is working out that purpose.

Consider the creation of God, take time to just sit and wonder about creation and you will experience that spark in your heart, a spark that will spread to lighten your heart and recognize the awesomeness of this great God.
