The Fig Tree, a sign
Posted on June 11th, 2026 by RedeemedMatthew 24:32-33 NLT
2 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near, right at the door.
The temple of Solomon was one of the most magnificent building ever erected by man, something I believe is in a class of its own but on a certain day Jesus and his disciples were leaving the temple and his disciples were admiring the beauty of it and Jesus told them a scary story of how the temple beautiful and magnificent as it was will become rumbles, completely destroyed one day in fulfilment of the warnings of the Lord to Solomon after he built the temple. 1King 9:8-9.
Only in living in obedience to God will the Lord continue to dwell in the temple, accept their prayers and watch over it - for how can two walk together except they are in agreement? Amos 3:3.
As Jesus told them what will befall the temple, he began also to give them very useful but scary information of what will befall mankind in the nearest future.
Jesus told them of how the end will begin to unfold, starting with great deceits, the kind never witnessed before. Then there will be wars and rumours of wars, famines, earthquakes, betrayals and hatred; These according to Jesus is just the beginning of the birth pains.
Persecution of God's people will begin to spread on account of the name of the Lord.
False prophets will arise and deceive many. A great falling away will occur but God's chosen ones will be preserved, refined through the trials and travails.
Evil will be rampart and take on a new dimension, made fashionable through re-branding.
Wickedness will overtake the world and love will be a scarce commodity because many people's heart will grow cold due to the monstrous and wide spread nature of evil but Jesus said those who endure will be saved.
And then the gospel of the Kingdom will be preached to all mankind as a witness and then only then will the world come to an end.
Learn therefore a lesson from the fig ? Jesus said. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout... then you are certain summer is right at the door.
Few days ago, I saw a beautiful a tender plant with tender branches sprouting and I wondered what this meant....
Suddenly, I remember the Fig, a tiny plant which when fully grown becomes one of the mightiest trees that provides food and shelter.
Jesus told his disciples that the fig tree budding points to those watching that summer is right at the corner and so people begin preparing for a new season.
Preparation for summer begins as soon as one observe the signs of the budding leaves of the Fig tree.
Merchants start selling off winter wears, making room for summer wears least one be caught unprepared with no room to store summer apparels.
As I studied the Scripture, I wondered why Jesus spoke these words to his disciples and not the multitude...
It Suddenly became clear to me that the world is not expecting Jesus to come back for his people, for they never believed that he is who he said he was. If they didn't believe, how can they be careful to observe the signs of his coming back?
The truth is that the world is not expecting a come back episode of Jesus the Son of God, and so cannot prepare for what they are not expecting.
As the fig tree is a sign, so also is the manifestation of these events a sign that Jesus is coming soon, right at the door.
Today you are, magnificent, beautiful and very powerful just as the temple of Solomon was but just like the Presence of the Lord is what made it useful and sought after and it came crashing down when the Presence was gone so must we remember that we are because of Christ.
Time is running out fast, it ran out for the people who trusted so much in the temple and didn't trust in the God who made the temple holy and of great importance.
Today as you hear his voice, don't harden your heart. You never can tell what tomorrow, or even the next minute holds for you.
Make that decision now!
God bless.
Peace.
