The State of the Harvest
Posted on July 3rd, 2021 by RedeemedJohn 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
It’s heart breaking to note that believers don’t see the urgency of the time we live in. Many think we still have time, and since this is the general notion, no serious importance is place on mission.
Jesus is saying our assumption is wrong. We are called to go into the whole world and proclaim the good news of the Kingdom. The field are already white for harvest, and if we don’t go into the field for the harvest the enemy will go after them, and they become a pain to society.
When a fruit is ripe, ready to be harvested, one of two things can happen to it. It can be harvested and put to good use or it gets rotten and falls off and is not useful to anyone. This is true for humans as well, there comes a time in the life of everyone when we come to a cross road; a decision point where you have to choose how and whom to live your life for.
The information and convictions you had been privy to before now will influence to a large extent what your decision will be like. Scriptures tell in Romans 10: 14, 17 - How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? So then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. This is why it is so important that the good news of the Kingdom be told to all men. People will only take action on what they have knowledge of. Information therefore is power. Jesus said we shall know the truth and the truth we know and apply to our lives (emphasis mine) is what will set us free. A lot of promises available to God’s people in God’s WORD are not accessed simply because the insight have not been received or such promises are not even known to most people.
Jesus therefore is giving us information on how we should see and take action about the things happening around us. The fruits are ripe, waiting to be harvested. There is need therefore for us to attach some amount of urgency just as Jesus did when he was here on earth. I will work while it is day, says the Lord, for night comes when no man can work. Again He said in John 5:17 “My Father is always working, and I too must work.” If Jesus apportioned such urgency to the task of soul winning, we will do well to do same.
Jesus earthly ministry was centred on redeeming man in total – spirit, soul and body. As he ministered to them, he healed those that were sick, set the captives free and preached the good news to the poor. His words were divine truth, capable of liberating man completely.
He is the Word through which all things were made, visible and invincible. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:4.
The Word of God is active, living and can quicken. This is why the Word, when spoken over situation has the power to make alive or even kill! The Spirit of the Lord will move or act on the spoken Word of God, and this has been demonstrated over and over in Scriptures. In the beginning the Spirit of God moved over the surface of the deep, and God said let there be light, and there was light! Genesis 1:3
The Prophets of old were commanded by God to speak over nations, people and situations and as they obeyed miraculous events were recorded. (Ezekiel 37:4).
Matthew 24:14 recorded that this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a testimony unto all the nations; and then shall the end come.
The world need to hear the saving message of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for the time is short, almost at hand. The field is truly white for harvest; let us go as sent people into the field using any available means to let mankind know that they are truly loved by the Father. The Lord is counting on me and you to help tell the world that there is hope even for the hopeless.
