Working For and Not with God

Working For and Not with God

Posted on October 26th, 2021 by Redeemed

Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

To work with someone is to habitually or continuously fellowship or be by someone. To live with is therefore to fellowship with. A constant companion, such that whatever one is doing, the other is also aware of.

We are to fellowship with the Holy Spirit all the time through the grace of Jesus Christ and the love of the Father. 2 Corinthians 13:14

Enoch for 300 years lived in constant fellowship with God. He worked so closely that God decided he would take him away so he would not see death! Such amazing love that God showed him for his steadfastness.

Noah, also lived in fellowship with God, and God revealed to him what He planned to do to the earth and its inhabitant. He was spared the judgement that came upon all flesh. If we live in fellowship with God, we are one with His Spirit, and therefore have the mind of God.

Constant and habitual fellowships with God attract His blessings and favour into our lives - for in the Presence of the Lord, there is liberty, and fullness of joy.

In Exodus 20:24, God promised to come to his people and bless them when they sacrifice their sheep and cattle, completely burnt as fellowship offering. In fellowship, we worship God for who He is. As we fellowship and worship Him with burnt offerings, praises and worship, God promised to come to us! When the LORD arrives, it means He is pleased with us, and then He will bless us.

It is amazing therefore that we have little or no time to Worship God! Why? - Because we are afraid of His Presence!? - So we would rather shut Him out of His Church, and be busy with our own agendas and programs. At the end of the day, we remain the same – no encounter, no change, and we continue to struggle with life; when all we need do is to strive to invite the Presence of God into our midst with worship, and every other thing is taken care of.

A lot of us are busy working for God; we are not even listening to what He is saying. We have it all planned, and no room for even God to change our programs. We care little or nothing about what He thinks or want to say with the many activities we have – we care much more about what people will say; the praises of men and the fatness of our offerings. We care more about what comes to us at the end of the day; what wages we get and not what profit God has gained from our relationship with Him.

Working for God is all about what we stand to gain. Hired workers receive wages at the end of day, but rewards are given to those who fellowship.

It is easier to work for than with God because working with God requires dedication, carefulness, sacrifice, self denial, living a separate life unto Him, being lead continuously by His Spirit; it means we pay a heavy price; live a life of holiness. (1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy).

Working with God denotes relationship, a partnership in which He is the Senior Partner; if this is the case, then we would involve Him and allow Him lead the way whilst we follow.

Our mind set therefore must change from thinking in terms of what I stand to gain to how can I serve Lord; what do you want me to do and how do I go about it LORD?

It is about doing the will of God not ours.  Jesus said many will be shocked on that day because they will be turned back from entering the Kingdom of God, for they were busy working for themselves not for God!

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

John 4: 35 -36 describes this partnership – one soweth, another reapeth, so that he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together - everyone working according to how God has gifted each.

If we share in the common goal for His sake and the gospel’s, then we will also share in the reward; both here and the world to come. Mark 10: 29 -30.

God bless.
