Run To Finish
Posted on January 16th, 2022 by RedeemedRun your best in the race of faith, and win eternal life for yourself; for it was to this life that God called you when you firmly professed your faith before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6 : 12
As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses round us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. Hebrews 12 : 1
Life is a journey, more like a race, and everyone gets to get a reward depending on how you run.
Every athlete that is enlisted to compete in any game has to train real hard for them to qualify to represent their team. After qualifying they train even harder, and with discipline and determination may win a medal. Medals are not won by chance but by putting great effort, sacrifices, self denial and shear determination.
In the same vein, the race of life, which by the way is a more serious one, but unfortunately many don’t realize or even see it that way, is the race for the soul of man which requires every seriousness.
Every one born into this world, qualifies automatically to enter into this race. Without the saving grace of Christ you are doom to run it in vain but the moment you profess your faith in Christ Jesus you stand a chance to win.
What do we actually stand to get at the end? We can see this in Revelation, in the 2nd chapter and the 10th verse (a crown of life).
If this is a race that can earn us eternity - depending on how you run it, then wisdom demands that we put in everything we have to get the crown of life.
Just like the athlete wakes up early to train in rain or shine in order to keep fit, so must we do all, letting go of everything that distract and weigh us down and run light. Do all you have to do, take all that is required, and press on to the finish line.
The umpire of this race is God, and the race is concluded when our time is done here on earth. History has it that no one, no matter how powerful and fearsome they have become, has been able to excuse themselves from death; but for the believers Jesus promised that we will live even when we transit in death - for He overcame death, and blotted the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross Colossians 2:14 KJV.
So therefore, Jesus by what He did on the cross programmed us to run to the finish. If we have been programmed to win, we must therefore run with care, staying on the track we have been placed, run with determination and discipline to the very end, and win for ourselves as God has said, the reward of eternal life.
