The Source and sustainer of life
Posted on February 12th, 2023 by RedeemedGod is the creator of life. All things have their being from and through Him.
Genesis Chapter one recounts how everything came to be .
Genesis 1:2 - 3
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said, “Let there be…
He spoke everything into existence and they became. Reading further to the 31st chapters of Genesis 1, God saw that all He has made was very good.
Genesis 1:31
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning – the sixth day.
Everything was in perfect harmony with the Creator and life flourished since it was connected to its Source.
The Lord Created man on the sixth day and He made him ruler over His creation, to take care of it.
Leadership therefore is great responsibility, to care for whatever God has put in your charge!
Adam named everything, for God gave that responsibility to him, and whatever name he called anything, that is what it was.
God saw that Adam needed a help mate, and He knew what Adam needed, someone just like him.
Eve was the helpmate perfectly suited for Adam; for Adam gave her the name Eve, and God blessed them and commanded them to be fruitful and populate the entire earth.
The man and his wife lived in peace with each other and with nature and everything in the garden for as long as they were at peace with the Creator - God.
Unfortunately, this harmony did not last because sin entered the world and so began evil.
Adam’s disobedience introduced death not just to him but all that came after him including the whole of creation because everything was now disconnected from the Creator.
But there is hope in all of this for God provided a way for man to reconnect until the Messiah is come. Simply put without connecting to the Source of life we eventually die off.
God made it clear even in the Old Testament that life is sustained only in Him as demonstrated in Ezekiel the 47th chapter.
Everything need water to live, and water symbolizes a number of things, including life.
Ezekiel 47:1-2 NIV
The man brought me back to the entrance to the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar. [2] He then brought me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate facing east, and the water was trickling from the south side.
Ezekiel 47:5-10
He measured off another thousand, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough to swim in–a river that no one could cross. He asked me, “Son of man, do you see this?”
Then he led me back to the bank of the river. When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the Sea. When it empties into the Sea, the water there becomes fresh. Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. Fishermen will stand along the shore; from En Gedi to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. The fish will be of many kinds–like the fish of the Great Sea.
We are told that the water flowed from the temple threshold but as the man measures every thousand cubits the depth or volume has increased until it became a river. The source of this river that brought life to everywhere it flowed was droplets of water coming from the temple.
Anywhere or anything connected to the water flowing from the temple has life. This correlate with Jesus saying He is the Vine and we are the branches, if we abide in Him as He is in us we will live.
God is the source of life, for as long as we stay connected to Him we will live. Though the initial flow was small, but because the flow was not disrupted it welled up to a river. This water carries life or has life and it’s able to transmit this life to anything it comes into contact with.
I believe this is also symbolic of the Spirit indwelling us, for scriptures says out of our bellies shall flow streams of living waters. The more we grow in Christ the more the measure of His Spirit indwelling us just like the flow from the temple’s threshold that welled up to a river.
My prayers is that the Lord gives us the strength and grace to grow daily and stay connected always to Him.
God bless.
Shalom!
