The unpardonable sin
Posted on May 18th, 2024 by RedeemedMatthew 12:30-32 ASV
He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. [31] Therefore I say unto you, Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. [32] And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in that which is to come.
Carefulness is required when you are not sure of the source of something. Wisdom demands that we keep our mouth shut when we are unsure of something.
The sin against the Holy Spirit is not permitted and is a very dangerous thing to do.
Scriptures recorded in Acts 5:1-10; A certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife died when they sinned against the Holy Spirit by lying to the Holy Spirit. They thought they were dealing with men when it was really the Holy Spirit they were dealing with.
It’s a fearful thing to be pitched against the LORD and speak against His Spirit. Even as I write this, the holy fear of the LORD is all over me.
LORD, help me never ever to take your grace, patience, kindness and love for granted!
There is so much going on around us such that one wonder what will be next? A lot of maneuvering, scheming and strategizing taking place at an unbelievable and alarming rate never thought possible before now such that It seems the world is racing to fulfill a mandate? Knowledge has increased tremendously, and it’s left for mankind to determine if good or evil will come from all of these.
The Church is not left out of this, such that a lot of tongues are waggling, and some even go as far as attributing the working of the Holy Spirit in His Church and amongst His people to falsehood; A very dangerous thing to do. Speaking against the Holy Spirit leads to death, and is a sin that will not be forgiven here or hereafter.
Distinguishing the working of the Holy Spirit from what is not from Him will need the gift of discernment, one of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. If you do not have this gift, it’s safe not to take it upon yourself to analyze what and what He is doing or not. Attributing the working of God’s Spirit to something else is a great error, and it could lead to the unforgivable sin that Jesus made mention of in the opening verse.
There is a sin that leads to death; Apostle John said not to pray for such a one that has committed the unpardonable sin. This is a sin committed against the Holy Spirit, a sin Jesus said will not be forgiven here on earth or in the world to come.
1 John 5:16-17 AMP
If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he will pray and ask [on the believer’s behalf] and God will for him give life to those whose sin is not leading to death. There is a sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for this [kind of sin]. [17] All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death [one can repent of it and be forgiven].
To keep safe from such unforgivable act, it’s better to keep quiet about what we don’t understand. It’s not necessary to comment on everything one disagrees with or even agrees with.
There is wisdom in being silent when necessary, and also wisdom in talking less. God promised to pour His Spirit on all flesh in the last days, and through the help of the Holy Spirit the miraculous will take place.
Joel 2:28 KJV
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
So therefore, signs and wonders is a confirmation of the Presence of God’s Spirit at work, for God has promised to confirm His Word with signs and wonders.
The signs of the time and the strangeness of the things happening out there were foretold in Scriptures. What we need do is to take time to pray, asking God for discernment and direction when we are uncomfortable with a particular situation/s. Without the Spirit of God leading us, we are at great risk.
Let us take time to draw near to God in fellowship, prayers and reading of God’s word so we can stand after having done all.
God bless.
Peace.
