All or Nothing

Posted on February 11th, 2025 by Redeemed

Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem: “This is what the Lord says:  “ ‘I remember the devotion of your youth, how as a bride you loved me  and followed me through the wilderness, through a land not sown. Israel was holy to the Lord, the firstfruits of his harvest;  all who devoured her were held guilty, and disaster overtook them,’ ” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 2: 2 - 3 (NKJV Bible Offline).

Just as a husband is intensely jealous over his wife so also is the Lord jealous over His people.

He requires our complete devotion and love. If we must continue to have unhindered fellowship with him, we must do our part in the relationship he calls us into.

We are called to be devoted to him and him alone, just as we did when we first gave our lives to him.

Some of us were so zealous that we would go wherever he asked us to without any doubt in our hearts.

But as we grow older, somehow, we lost it or we got too familiar with him. We began to allow things get in the way and before long, we realised we have drifted far away.

We no longer follow as he leads, rather we want to lead ourselves and presume to think we know what we want more than he knows.

Like relationships drift if we are not putting in the work necessary for it's nourishment so we would drift from him if we are not careful to do what we did when he first called us and we followed him everywhere he leads.

The opening verse kept coming to me and as I began to reflect on my journey with Him, I realised I have drifted and needed to return to Him. I still love him as I did the first time my heart was opened to know him, but somehow, I needed to retrace my steps on somethings, let go of some decisions he is not pleased with and follow as he leads daily.

In retrospect, I realised I need to be intentional and have the end in mind in all my pursuits. Some things I realised are not profitable if I have to be truly devoted to his call and purpose for my life, I must leave behind.

Like God's people in the opening verse were truly devoted and we're lead by him even through the wilderness so also are we called to be truly devoted.

We cannot be here and there and be involved in all many of things and yet expect God to fight for us.

All who hurt us will have God to contend with only if we are devoted to Him. He will fight them that fight us and will be quick to answer us if we do our part in following as He leads.

I have seen his mighty hand at work in many instances in my life. He is faithful and will never abandon those who trust in Him. We can be sure that He will show up for us when we call on Him.

We are reminded in the opening verse to return to our first love and be intentional in our relationship and devotion, be fervent and genuinely renew our love for him and let go of our selfish egos that often comes between our desire to serve him and ourselves.

Most of us would rather claim the glory that is rightly His for ourselves in the name of service while paying lip services instead of heart services to him.

Unfortunately, we only deceive ourselves because he sees through our actions and motives, and he assured many will be disappointed when they remind him on that day of how they had a great relationship with him and saw him preach across their streets, but will be surprised to learn they are not known by Him. Luke 13: 24 - 30.

If we truly know him as we claim, we will walk with him rather than for him. We are called therefore to a higher walk with him, and not just be familiar with him by listening to and not doing as he commands.

Acknowledging him means living and doing as he says. As we do this we can have the assurance that he will fight our battles as we stand still and know that He is God!

God bless.

Peace!
