The Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God

Posted on May 29th, 2025 by Redeemed

When asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs. [21] Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst.” Luke 17:20-21 BSB

A kingdom is made up of the king and his subjects. The king rules over his territories. A king is not voted for, but made and the throne is passed on to the heir at the end of the reign of the king.

The presence of a king in a territory by reason of establishing its presence through agreement or force brings the authority of that king to play in that territory. Just like there are embassies and consulates in different parts of the world, the embassy brings the presence of the country in that part of the world were its consulate or embassy is located.

God’s Kingdom is an everlasting one. He is the King who exist all by Himself - He has no beginning, and will have no end.

In the teaching of the Lord’s Prayer to His disciples, Jesus said they should pray for God’s Kingdom to come to the earth just as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10

Jesus was asked when the kingdom of God would come and his response was very interesting.

He said, “The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs….,” meaning the kingdom of God will not come with fanfare and all manner of display as some thought it would be but rather it is quiet and not noticeable if one is not searching for it. That is why Jesus said that if one searching found it, he/ she who recognized it for its worth would sell all they have to acquire it.

Jesus told them the kingdom was already in their midst! For wherever the presence of a king is, his kingdom is there - just like as an embassy of a country in another country establishes the presence and all the authority of that country in that embassy even though it is situated in another country. In the same way the presence of Jesus on earth who is King of kings and Lord of lords brought his kingdom into the midst of mortal men - His kingdom in our midst. So Jesus on earth brought the Kingdom of God into the earth realm, into our midst!

And wherever the kingdom of a king is, or wherever the embassy of a country is, the full authority of that king and or the authority of that country is at play there.

The Pharisees once asked Jesus by what authority He did what he was doing but Jesus threw a question at them instead - Jesus responded, “First let me ask you a question. You answer my question and I’ll answer yours. About the baptism of John—who authorized it: heaven or humans?” Matthew 21:24 MSG.

The Pharisees would not answer Jesus’s question since it placed them in a tight position. Instead they told him they know not by what authority John baptized and Jesus told them he would not answer them by what authority he did what he was doing.

Interestingly, he answered them indirectly in the next few verses by what authority he did what he did.

“But what do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first one and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’…..

[37] Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.” Matthew 21:28,37 BSB.

Jesus was authorized to do the work he did by the Father. He was sent by the Father, and as one sent of the Father, He carried the authority of the Father, just like an ambassador representing a country has the authority of the country they represent, so Jesus has the authority of the Father he represents, he had the Father’s seal to do what he did. The Father love the world, and so He sent His Son to redeem the world.

“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. John 3:16-18 MSG

Jesus coming into the world brought the Kingdom of God to anywhere He was and is welcomed. The Kingdom of God went with Him or wherever He went, His presence there brought the Kingdom, and the Kingdom is now in the midst of them, just like as an embassy in a foreign country brought in the presence of that country the embassy represent into that foreign land.

When Jesus was done with the work the Father sent Him, He gave his followers the-same authority he received from the Father to go into the world as representative of God’s Kingdom.

All through His ministry He proclaimed the Kingdom of God to men. “Repent,” He said, “for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” Matthew 4:17 AMP.

This was the-same message John the Baptist preached - the message of repentance in order to receive the Kingdom. Matthew 3: 2 AMP.

One who has received the Kingdom, represent the Kingdom as an ambassador of the Kingdom and Jesus said, He has given authority to those who received him as God’s sons or children.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12 KJV

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14 KJV.

As children of God’s Kingdom we receive power to do the work He has assign to us. The Keys of the Kingdom Jesus said He has given to the children of the Kingdom, to legislate on His behalf.

And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:19 KJV

Living as representative of the Kingdom is great responsibility which calls for total submission to the Spirit of the LORD. If we are of God’s Kingdom, then we must be led by the Spirit of God.

Our services to God will be successful to the extent to which we submit to God’s leadership by His Spirit and success is determined by God standard not man’s.

Jesus gave a glimpse of the surprises that God’s standard of reward and judgement will spring on many. God’s standard is different from man’s - for as high as the heavens is from the earth, so also are His ways higher than ours and His thoughts than ours. Isaiah 55:9

Jesus gave a stern warning of how the end will look like and why we should take our salvation walk with Him as seriously as it deserves.

A bystander said, “Master, will only a few be saved?” He said, “Whether few or many is none of your business. Put your mind on your life with God. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires your total attention. A lot of you are going to assume that you’ll sit down to God’s salvation banquet just because you’ve been hanging around the neighborhood all your lives. Well, one day you’re going to be banging on the door, wanting to get in, but you’ll find the door locked and the Master saying, ‘Sorry, you’re not on my guest list.’ [26-27]

“You’ll protest, ‘But we’ve known you all our lives!’ only to be interrupted with his abrupt, ‘Your kind of knowing can hardly be called knowing. You don’t know the first thing about me.’ [28-30]

“That’s when you’ll find yourselves out in the cold, strangers to grace. You’ll watch Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets march into God’s kingdom. You’ll watch outsiders stream in from east, west, north, and south and sit down at the table of God’s kingdom. And all the time you’ll be outside looking in—and wondering what happened. This is the Great Reversal: the last in line put at the head of the line, and the so-called first ending up last.” Luke 13:23-30 MSG

These are very serious words which we should note take for granted but rather we should constantly look at our lives if we are still following as His Spirit leads. We will make mistakes no doubt but how do we recover when we realize our mistakes?

Are we truly sorry and ask for forgiveness and then realign ourselves to follow Him more closely or we live as we please or as the world wants us to?

The Kingdom of God is real and not some fantasy. Whether we finally make it there or not is dependent on how we believe what He has revealed in His word and live accordingly.

God bless as we take it one day at a time, trusting His Spirit to lead us safely home - home is when we get to be with the LORD.

God bless.

Peace.
